On May 22, the event Mobilities, Reproduction and Identities: Reflections and Results of the ReproMob Project (2021ā2025) was held at the Pablo CassarĆ” Foundation in Buenos Aires.
Researchers from Argentina, Spain, and the UK involved in the project presented key findings, alongside Argentine colleagues who offered feedback and reflections. The event marked the beginning of the project’s closing phase after four years of collaboration.
The final phase culminated with the IV International ReproMob Conference, held from June 10th to 12th at the University of Barcelona and the Autonomous University of Barcelona, host institutions of subprojects 2 and 1, respectively.
ReproMob has brought together over 30 researchers from various European and Latin American countries to study reproductive and non-reproductive mobilities arising from the barriers faced by those who wishāor do not wishāto become parents, mobilizing physically, mentally, and emotionally.
On Monday, February 3, the new series of the podcast Conversaciones AFINes, titled “Reproductive Mobilities: Voices from the REPROMOB Project”, premiered on iVoox and Spotify, with a new episode released weekly.
This eight-episode series, directed by Alexandra Desy and Giulia Colavolpe-Severi, marks the conclusion of the REPROMOB project: “Repro-flows in Europe and Latin America: Mobilities of People and Gametes in the Fragmented Context of the Transnational Regulation of Assisted Reproduction and Adoption.”
The project, which is multidisciplinary, transdisciplinary, transnational, and intersectional, has been funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities. It was carried out by an international team of researchers, with joint coordination by the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the University of Barcelona.
The deadline for submitting communication proposals for the IV International ReproMob Conference Reproductive Governance and Mobilities in Europe and Latin America: Questioning Reproductive Justice and Rights in a Context of Austerity and Fertility Decline is open until January 31, 2025. This conference will take place in person in Bellaterra and Barcelona between June 10 and 12, 2025.
In an era marked by economic austerity and declining fertility rates, reproductive justice and rights are undergoing profound transformations in Europe and Latin America. It also seeks to analyze internal and cross-border mobilities, focusing on the impact of austerity measures on reproductive justice and rights.
Topics proposed for discussion include:
– The consequences of government policies on access to reproductive health care and services.
– Cross-border reproductive and non-reproductive care and its implications for reproductive justice and rights.
– Medical and non-medical mobilities in the shaping of reproductive futures.
– Reproductive mobilities of people, technologies, bioproducts, knowledge, ideas, and finances.
– Intersectional reproductive experiences of gender, race, disability, age, and class.
– The influence of national state policies on mobility, reproductive rights, and justice.
– Reproductive policy and governance in Europe and Latin America, and cases that challenge them.
– The role of reproductive activism in advocating for equitable reproductive justice and rights.

Panel āInvestigating reproduction and activism as engaged researchers: political, methodological and moral challengesā – II Congreso Internacional de AntropologĆa Feminista.
Organized by Bruna Alvarez (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona), Lieta Vivaldi (Universidad Alberto Hurtado) y Silvia de Zordo (Universitat de Barcelona).
In this panel, in which we presented the results of REPROMOB subproject 2, we investigated the pro and anti-sexual and reproductive rights debates on different topics ā sexual education, abortion, ARTs ā and reflected on the one hand on how the political debate and legal context can shape our research, especially when one walks the fine line between being a researcher and an activist, and, on the other hand, on how our research findings can lead us to take a critical position vis Ć vis political activism, challenging our double role as academic and activist.Ā
