Bruna Álvarez and Carolina Remorini, researchers at AFIN Barcelona and coordinators of Symposium 40: Anthropology and Health in Catalonia: Sexualities, Reproduction and Parenting at the upcoming 4th Catalan Congress of Anthropology, invite interested participants to submit their contributions.
This symposium welcomes contemporary works that analyze processes related to sexual and reproductive health, parenting, and caregiving. Proposals may address, among other topics, the relationship between reproduction and public, economic and social policies; the impact of pollution and the climate crisis on present and future reproduction; birth, parenting and breastfeeding; the influence of mobility on (non-)reproductive decisions and strategies; the role of support networks in caregiving; as well as the regulation of reproduction, parenting and sexuality by age, gender or (dis)ability.
Particular consideration will be given to proposals that provide a critical analysis of how anthropology constructs sociocultural data and approaches to challenge assumptions and claims upheld by institutional and media discourses.
The 4th Catalan Congress of Anthropology will take place on January 28, 29 and 30, 2026 at the University of Barcelona. The aim of the congress is to create a meeting point for Social and Cultural Anthropology in Catalonia.
You can submit your abstract until June 30, 2025 at the following link:
